STOCK MANAGEMENT

Review till differences and investigation notes

Compare the same reporting period, explain discrepancies and follow investigations through.

BEFORE YOU START

Use matching dates and product units for the stock count and till totals. Check deliveries, waste and selling prices before interpreting a difference.

  1. 01

    Open the relevant stocktake

Review the quantities and movements recorded for the period. A missing delivery or incorrect count can change the expected sales figure.

  2. 02

    Enter actual till takings

Use the matching period and product total from the till. Version 0.1 requires this figure to be entered manually.

  3. 03

    Compare expected and actual

The reconciliation shows expected takings, actual till takings and the difference. A shortfall needs investigation; a difference alone does not establish its cause.

  4. 04

    Add an investigation note

Record a useful explanation such as spillage, a counting correction or a promotion. Keep the note open while checks are outstanding.

  5. 05

    Resolve and review trends

Mark the investigation resolved when the checks are complete. Use product and reporting-period analytics to follow stock usage, wastage and recurring differences.
